The 2020 season was entertaining if not anything else for the 49ers. You never knew what was coming, even if you had an idea it wouldn’t be positive for the Niners. As is the case every season, health will be critical for this team. It’s been the same issue each year. They must figure out how to take care of their bodies this offseason so they can stay on the field next fall.
Panthers expected to request interview with 49ers’ Adam Peters for GM job
According to Joe Person of The Athletic (via Pro Football Talk), the Carolina Panthers are expected to request an interview with San Francisco 49ers vice president of player personnel Adam Peters for the team’s general manager opening.
Peters may be one of many to interview, though. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Carolina has already requested to interview New England Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio, Buffalo Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen, and Cleveland Browns vice president of football operations Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.
Per the report, the Panthers are also expected to request interviews with New Orleans Saints assistant general manager Jeff Ireland and Indianapolis Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds.
If the 49ers do move on from Jimmy G., there could be some interesting options.
As pointed out by NFL insider Matt Lombardo, Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz and Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford could be options in San Francisco.
Wentz is reportedly interested in a trade out of Philadelphia, while Stafford’s future in Detroit is unclear. Both players could be good options for the 49ers this offseason.
The 49ers had terrible injury luck in 2020, but San Francisco will look to get back to contending in 2020.
A pivotal drop by George Kittle on 3rd down gave the Seahawks the ball back with 7:46 to go. Seattle engineered a 14-play, 85-yard drive that featured a nice balance of good passes and effective rushes, including a couple of Wilson scrambles. On 4th and goal, Russell Wilson threw a dime to Tyler Lockett for the go-ahead touchdown on what was Lockett’s 100th catch of the year. 19-16 Seahawks with 2:20 to go.
Benson Mayowa strip-sacked CJ Beathard and Rasheem Green made the recovery! First turnover and a huge one.
Alex Collins ran it in from eight yards out to wrap up the win. 26-16 Seahawks.
Jeff Wilson had his 2nd touchdown of the game, catching a shorty from three yards out to wrap up the scoring. 26-23 Seahawks FINAL.
WR Kendrick Bourne “definitely” wants to stay with the 49ers
“I for sure want to be here,” Bourne told reporters after the 49ers fell 26-23 to the Seahawks Sunday. “I love this organization. They’ve taken care of me since they brought me undrafted, so I’ll always have a love for them, and just letting it play out how it’s going to play out. I don’t really know. I want to be back, so I’ll just let my agents do their job and see what they’re talking about. Whatever the best situation for me is is what I’m going to take.”
“That’s a big part. My relationships with everybody here are definitely genuine and authentic,” Bourne said. “You never know what happens when you go to a different team. You never know — I might not fit in somewhere else how I fit in here. They accept me here how I am — the personality, goofiness, everything about me they just accept and let me be myself. I feel why that’s why I’m so successful here.”
No. 3: SF 49ers take advantage of possible regression elsewhere in the NFC in 2021
The 2021 salary cap dropping as potentially low as $175 million has some serious ramifications for San Francisco, which has 40 pending free agents of some variety this offseason and over $150 million already committed to players next year..
But the drop in cap space is going to affect a number of other teams, too, and many of those are going to be in worse situations than the SF 49ers.
Especially some high-profile NFC teams.
Within the NFC West, the Seattle Seahawks have a projected $17.93 available in cap space for 2021, per Over the Cap, and they have 36 pending free agents of some variety, too, including a significant portion of their so-so offensive line. And with zero first-round NFL Draft picks and just four total for 2021 right now, it might be difficult for Seattle to maintain any sort of adequate depth next season.
The LA Rams, meanwhile, are in a worse situation by being projected at more than $20.93 million over the cap for 2021. That’ll make for some tough decisions down south.
Other top NFC teams, such as the Green Bay Packers (projected to be $21 million over the cap) and New Orleans Saints (projected to be $95.1 million over the cap), could also undergo some serious roster turnover, too.
Each one of those teams’ situations could potentially shake up the balance of power within the conference, and that works to the Niners’ benefit.
