Denver Broncos general manager John Elway announced on Monday that he’d no longer be the GM of the Broncos as he’ll take an elevated role with the team. Elway will have the final say on personnel still, but he’s stepping away from the GM role.
Adam Peters has entered the chat.
Peters was a regional scout for the Broncos in 2009, before being promoted to a national scout in 2011-13. Peters then served as the team’s assistant director of college scouting in 2014-15, before being promoted one final time in 2016 as the Broncos director of college scouting. That’s eight years with the Broncos.
Back in February of 2017, Fooch wrote this about Elway and Peters:
“He’s very good at what he does and I hate losing him. But I also know that it’s a great opportunity for him as far as the responsibilities that he was going to gain in San Francisco. But also I know that he’s going to be able to go and help John.
“If it was anyone else, I probably wouldn’t have. But I know it’s a great opportunity for Adam and he’ll be a tremendous help to John.”
I’d be curious to see if the 49ers name John Lynch the team president and promote Peters to GM or do some shuffling to keep Peters. This was always going to be a difficult offseason for the Niners. It’s a copycat league, and you cannot deny the talent on San Francisco’s roster.
Lynch confirmed that the Panthers have requested to interview Peters for their GM job as well. Lynch also said he expects another request will come to interview Martin Mayhew. Get ready for a lot of changes both in the front office and on the roster this offseason.
