The San Francisco 49ers announced that they waived LS Colin Holba. Holba was signed after the 49ers' original long snapper Tabyor Pepper couldn’t suit up. Pepper, 26, was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. He’ll be the Niners long snapper moving forward, assuming no changes are made.

49ers also announced that they signed TE Chase Harrell and S Jared Mayden to Reserve/Future contracts. Harrell is an interesting prospect that only played tight end for one season at Arkansas after playing wide receiver during his three previous collegiate seasons. Harrell must have done enough at practice this past season.

Mayden can play both safety and cornerback, so his versatility will always serve as an added bonus. Mayden played both during training camp, and while he never saw a defensive snap for the 49ers this season, he did appear on each special teams unit during Week’s 7 and 12. That’s Mayden’s best chance to see the field before he could potentially carve out a role for himself on defense.
