Kyle Shanahan announced quarterback Trey Lance has a left knee sprain and could miss 1-2 weeks. He stressed this is not a long-term injury. Lance will be re-evaluated at the end of the week, and then the team will know whether Lance will be available for Sunday Night Football against the Colts in Week 6.
Shanahan didn’t know when the injury occurred, nor did Lance. The rookie QB already had an MRI, and that’s where the team got that Lance would miss 1-2 weeks.
Shanahan was asked multiple times was Lance injured due to running the ball when he wasn’t supposed to, and Kyle emphatically shot those questions down. Shanahan said he was happy with Lance’s performance and said he was one of the reasons the 49ers had a chance to win:
“Thought he was aggressive with what he saw. When he saw it right, let her rip... ran aggressively. I thought he did a real good job through it all. Thought it was a good first experience for him.”
This was supposed to be the time where Lance continues to grow as a player and not sit on the shelf while he rehabs and recovers from injury.
Marcell Harris suffered a right thumb fracture. He’ll have surgery tomorrow and will be good to go after the bye week.
Shanahan expects Jimmy Garoppolo (calf), K’Waun Williams (calf), and JaMycal Hasty (ankle) all to return after the bye week.
Dre Greenlaw has an “outside chance” to return after the bye week. Running back Jeff Wilson’s timetable is “late November.” There were no updates on Jalen Hurd and Tarvarius Moore.
The 49ers announced they activated CB Davontae Harris from the injured reserved list and released CB Buster Skrine.
