The Arizona Cardinals have traded for Philadelphia Eagles three-time Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz in exchange for CB Tay Gowan and a 2022 fifth-round pick. The Cardinals lost TE Maxx Williams to a severe injury against the 49ers for the season.
The Cardinals will pay Zach Ertz full remaining salary, which should be around $5.6 million. The 31-year-old has 18 receptions for 189 yards and two touchdowns, including one Thursday night against the Buccaneers. Ertz will be a weapon to an already potent Cardinals offense. However, since he played against Tampa Bay, Ertz is not eligible to play Sunday for Arizona against the Browns.
Does this make Arizona the team to beat in the NFC West? Were they already. It seems as though the Cardinals have gotten off to a fast start but have crumbled in each of the past few seasons. We’ll see if this year will be an exception. Adding Ertz can’t hurt.
What do you think, have the Cardinals cemented themselves as the best team in the division after this trade? We could still see plenty of trades. I’m curious to see whether the 49ers will be buyers or sellers or if they stay put.
