49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to the media ahead of Wednesday’s practice to provide a few injury updates. Trent Williams won’t practice as he has an elbow and an ankle injury.
Trey lance remains out with a left knee sprain. Shanahan, on Lance: “Same diagnosis. We’re hoping he could go this week, but it doesn’t look like it. Might have a chance at the end of the week.” Shanahan said he wouldn’t be surprised if Lance wasn’t ready to go and needed another week to be fully healthy.
Shanahan said he’s “pretty optimistic” Jimmy Garoppolo will be OK for the Colts game. Garoppolo will be limited during Wednesday’s practice with a calf injury. Kyle said he wants to see Jimmy prove he’s OK before he’s no longer on the injury report.
Javon Kinlaw will miss practice with a knee injury. Shanahan, on if it’s a concern: “It’s a big concern this year. It’s nothing against him, but his development right now is on hold.
“We gotta get his knee better so he can develop and turn into the player we know he is.”
Shanahan spoke about the team trying to manage Kinlaw in hopes that his injury would improve, but that hasn’t happened, and the second-year pro has continually fought through setbacks and injuries. But, he also added, “it’s nothing against Kinlaw.”
Running back JaMycal Hasty will also be limited with a high-ankle sprain.
