“We’re open for stuff that we think that could help us now, but we don’t want to do that to the expense of hurting us in the future and there’s a lot of things that go into it. So I won’t say never, but I’d be surprised if something that happened.”
49ers optimistic DE Dee Ford, LB Azeez Al-Shaair will return vs. Cardinals
“I am optimistic about them next week,” Shanahan told reporters on a conference call. “They were close enough that we took it all the way until Saturday. But usually when it’s not looking good on Friday, that’s why we put them down as doubtful. We held out hope that’s why he took them with us out, but still a long shot this week. Much better today and hopefully that will be cleared by Wednesday.”
“Pretty big concern. I don’t know yet,” Shanahan told reporters. “But I think when you talk about pulling a quad, it’s very similar to pulling a hamstring. And we’ll see if that’s the case on it.”
49ers to open practice windows for TE George Kittle, 2 others in lead up to Week 9
“Tight end George Kittle, kicker Robbie Gould and running back Jeff Wilson Jr. are all set to have their practice windows opened in the first step to getting each of them back on the active roster.”
“He addressed every player, every position, and what he thought about guys,” Shanahan said. “And he kept it real with a bunch of people, the good and the bad.”
Maiocco: Jimmy G, 49ers’ play vs. Bears lifts pressure for now
“There is a long season ahead. If Garoppolo and the 49ers do not find consistency in Week 9 against the NFC West-leading Cardinals, they will immediately find themselves back where they were a week ago.”
Ian Rapoport expands on report about future of Lance, Garoppolo on KNBR
“From what I understand, Trey Lance is expected to start this year, especially if the losses continue to come,” Rapoport said on KNBR. “If the 49ers win some games and get back in the playoffs, and sort of in the playoff conversation, then I think Jimmy will start out there. If they get to a point where the season is about the future and not the present, then Trey Lance will start, and the development will begin, and then that will be that.”
Kawakami: Five Most Positive Parts Of The 49ers Season So Far
“The 49ers are playing hard for Shanahan or with him or however you want to describe it. He and Lynch have made some personnel mistakes, unquestionably. Which is a big reason the 49ers are 3-4 and not 5-2. But they’ve also put together a locker room that clearly likes each other, plays for each other and helps carry Shanahan and Lynch through some of the rockier moments. By all evidence.”
