The 49ers announced a handful of roster moves ahead of Sunday’s game against the Cardinals. Defensive end Dee Ford was placed on the injured reserve. Defensive tackle Zach Kerr was released. With both players out, that would indicate Charles Omenihu would be active. The team is already thin along the defensive line, with Javon Kinlaw and Maurice Hurst out at defensive tackle.
Man, what a rough blow for a team that had one of the deepest defensive lines in the NFL heading into Week 1. Now, it’s anything but. This puts more pressure on Arik Armstead and Nick Bosa to perform. It also means D.J. Jones will have to continue to play a heavy amount of snaps.
The 49ers activated George Kittle, Jeff Wilson Jr., and Robbie Gould from the injured reserve. I wonder if Wilson being active means the team allows Mitchell to rest as he nurses a rib injury. Mitchell had a non-contact jersey during practice Friday.
Additionally, LB Tyrell Adams and S Tony Jefferson were elevated from the practice squad. Jefferson would be the next safety up after Talanoa Hufanga and Tavon Wilson.
