Poll: Who should fill in for injured 49ers right tackle Mike McGlinchey?

Should they stick by veteran Tom Compton, or give an opportunity to a rookie?

NFL: Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

Just as the 49ers welcomed George Kittle back from injury, the Niners lost another offensive starter. Right tackle Mike McGlinchey left Sunday’s loss to the Cardinals with a knee injury and is out for the season with a torn left quad. So now head coach Kyle Shanahan will have to turn to someone else on the right side of the offensive line.

Jaylon Moore seems like the obvious answer. The rookie fifth-round pick stepped in admirably for Trent Williams earlier this season at left tackle and was considered by many to be the 49ers swing tackle. However, when McGlinchey left the game on Sunday, the Niners turned to veteran Tom Compton instead.

Compton, a nine-year veteran, has played all across the offensive line but has little success. In his brief appearance this week at right tackle, the Cardinals pass rushers dominated him, forcing multiple sacks and several quarterback pressures. Still. he does have experience in 114 career NFL games.

The Niners could also consider a third option at right tackle. Starting right guard Dan Brunskill was very impressive at tackle during his rookie season and has struggled to replicate that performance on the interior. With rookie second-round pick guard Aaron Banks yet to play an offensive snap, moving Brunskill to tackle could also create an opportunity for the 49ers to give another young player a chance to develop.

Who do you want to see at right tackle for the 49ers the rest of this season? Let us know in the poll and comments:
