On today’s Niners Nation Gold Standard podcast, Levin Black texted an interesting question to me in our pre-show discussion: who would be the free agent you’d be most upset about losing? This was a tough question for me because, at 36, I generally don’t get too attached to any one player anymore. That said, the more I thought about it, the more one name kept popping up: K’Waun Williams.
I fully acknowledge that Williams is not the most important player that the 49ers need to re-sign. In fact, he’s not even the most important Williams the 49ers need to re-sign. But, given Robert Saleh’s glowing comments about Williams in the past and how much he makes their defensive scheme work, I can’t help but be mad about the idea of losing him in 2021. Especially with an inexperienced defensive coordinator at the helm next year. It would be nice for the 49ers to have a player in the secondary who could help catch what could be a largely new secondary up to speed.
