Kyle’s update 8:20 p.m.: Fitzmagic is taking his talents to the nation’s capital. Former Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick agreed to a one-year contract worth $10 million with the Washington Football Team. He could make up to $12 million with incentives, per Adam Schefter.
Jameis Winston is returning to the Big Easy. The former No. 1 overall pick signed a one-year deal worth $12 million with the New Orleans Saints.
Offensive lineman Matt Feiler signed a three-year deal worth $21 million. Feiler spent the last five seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Kyle’s update, 5:55 p.m.: Robert Saleh added one of the best pass rushers on the market as the Jets signed Carl Lawson to a three-year deal worth $45M with $30M guaranteed. I’d bet on Lawson to be the most productive pass rusher signed today.
The Titans signed former Steelers pass rusher Bud Dupree to a multi-year contract worth $16.5M per year.
Kyle’s update, 5:00 p.m.: Former Titans WR Corey Davis signs with the Jets for $37.5M over three years. Davis gets $27M guaranteed.
Kyle’s update, 3:35 p.m.: The Rams have retained edge rusher Leonard Floyd on a four-year deal that’ll pay Floyd $64 million.
The Broncos signed CB Ronald Darby to a three-year deal worth $30M. Darby gets $19.5 guaranteed.
Kyle’s update, 3:10 p.m.: The Raiders are expected to sign edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue.
Kyle’s update, 1:37 p.m.: The Chargers have signed C Corey Linsley. That’s good news, as the Cardinals were rumored to make a strong run at the All-Pro center.
Kyle’s update, 1:11 p.m.: Joe Thuney signs a five-year, $80M deal with the Chiefs. That should take Kansas City out of the Trent Williams sweepstakes, right?
Former Rams S John Johnson signs a three-year deal with the Browns.
Kyle’s update, 12:59 p.m.: Lions LB Jarrad Davis signs with the Jets on a one-year deal worth $7M.
Kyle’s update, 12:02 p.m.: The Patriots have agreed to a four-year deal with former Ravens edge rusher Matt Judon. The contract is worth $56 million, including $32 million guaranteed.
The Rams placed a first-round RFA tender on Darious Williams. If it were a second-round tender, I’d be tempted. Williams was tremendous in 2020.
The Texans agreed to terms with WR Andre Roberts on a two-year deal worth $5.95 million.
The Patriots signed DB Jalen Mills on a four-year, $24 million deal.
Kyle’s update, 10:02 a.m.: The Patriots have reached an agreement with former Titans’ TE Jonnu Smith on a four-year, $50 million deal that includes $31.25 million fully guaranteed.
Kyle’s update, 9:32 a.m.: Pat Elfein has reached a three-year, $13.5 million deal to sign with the Panthers.
Shaq Barrett agreed to a deal for four years worth up to $72M with $36M guaranteed. Barrett’s cap hit for 2021 is $5.6M.
Kyle’s update, 9:15 a.m.: The Lions are signing pass-rusher Romeo Okwara to a three-year deal worth $39 million. Okwara
Everyone expects this free agency cycle to be a wild ride. We could see more releases than ever and even more contracts signed below the market level. That wasn’t the case for Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones, who signed a four-year deal worth $48 million, including a $13 million signing bonus to play with Aaron Rodgers.
One thing to remember as these deals pour in is that the contract is never what it seems at face value. Taysom Hill signed a four-year, $140 million contract extension on Sunday. The internet had some fun with that, but the deal was voidable, and it was a way to manipulate the salary cap. New Orleans ended up saving over $7.5 million against the cap during 2021.
Taysom Hill deal reminds me when I had to create phony incentives in order to have Cap carryover. I once gave Doug Pederson a $20 million bonus if he threw seven TDs in our last game. All funny money.

Brandt added that the only change in Hill’s contract is that New Orleans turned most of the money Hill was already making into a bonus to prorate it out. The phony years are for proration.
