Pelissero: Sherman ‘open’ to a Seahawks reunion

Sherm would be the third 49er to sign with Seattle

The Seattle Seahawks have signed Kerry Hyder Jr. and Ahkello Witherspoon. D.J. Reed is a starter in Seattle’s secondary already. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said on Good Morning Football Wednesday that the Seahawks could add another 49er:

“Richard Sherman is open to returning to Seattle. I believe the Seahawks also would be open to having Sherman back. This is not like Earl Thomas where it was really acrimonious at the end. These are two sides where it just came time [to move on]. ... The issue is going to be the money.”

The 49ers have their secondary in place. It was unlikely that Sherm was returning to San Francisco, but after re-signing Emmanuel Moseley, Jason Verrett, and K’Waun Williams, it’s unlikely the 49ers could afford Sherman’s services.

Sherman will be 33 at the end of this month. He’s publicly stated that his market has been slow to this point, which shouldn’t come as a surprise considering how much time Sherman missed this past season.

Sherman was hated for obvious reasons during his time in Seattle. That changed, and many fans did a 180 on how they feel about Sherman. If he returns to the Seahawks, I can only imagine the comments. On Tuesday, fans were calling Hyder a “traitor” and how little he means, etc., etc. If a third 49er joins Seattle this offseason, fans may lose it.
