Kyle Shanahan made it loud and clear that he believes there are three elite quarterback prospects in this year’s class. Mac Jones is a good prospect, let’s not get that twisted, but players selected in the top 3 are supposed to be perennial pro-bowl caliber players in the NFL.
That’s not Jones, not even close, at least not at this point in his career. We already know he’s not as physically gifted as the other contenders, but he’s not mentally either, despite public perception.
He struggles with ball placement, vision, and his post-snap processing is far from where it needs to be. Relying on Jones to return the value of THREE first-round picks is too much to ask, and the 49ers would be crazy to take the risk.
This week’s film breakdown analyzes Alabama Quarterback Mac Jones. As the NFL draft fast approaches, Jones stock has continued to climb higher and higher. There are recent reports that have him going as high as 3rd overall to the 49ers, who’ve traded multiple future picks to jump that high in the draft. Why would Jones be a bad idea for the 49ers? This episode uses the all-22 coaches film to analyze Alabama Quarterback Mac Jones.
