Smith had a productive season in 2020 as he finished with five sacks and 23 quarterback hits. Smith got off to a hot start before slowing down, then finishing strong in his final few games. He’s 31-years-old, but Smith doesn’t have the wear and tear that you’d expect since he had missed the 2017-2019 seasons.
Some Niners fans had hoped Smith would finish his career or play another season in the Bay Area. That door likely closed last week once the team brought back Ronald Blair, though I wouldn’t rule out the team adding a veteran pass rusher or player who is still available after the draft.
Seattle re-signed Carlos Dunlap and added former Niner Kerry Hyder already this season. Smith would be the latest over 30 pass rusher on the Seahawks.
Smith had a pressure percentage of 11.6 last season while saving 19 points, per Sports Info Solutions. Hyder had his best season from a pressure standpoint as he finished at 12.6% while saving 28 points. In eight games with Seattle, Dunlap’s pressure percentage was 11% and 16 points. He was the best pass rusher of the bunch, though I wouldn’t say either player frightens you as a play-caller.
