We are officially a week away from Round 1 of the 2021 NFL Draft. The most intrigue remains about who the San Francisco 49ers will take with the No. 3 overall selection.
General manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan are continuing to do their research as they figure out which QB they want to select to be the face of the franchise. It is expected that the Niners will go with either Mac Jones, Justin Fields or Trey Lance.
We have heard a wide range of opinions on who the 49ers should go with. Some draft pundits believe Lynch and Shanahan will go with Jones, while others have San Francisco picking Fields or Lance. Each QB brings his own unique skillset to the table, so it will ultimately come down to which signal-caller Shanahan thinks he will have the most success with.
Oddsmakers are leaning towards Jones as well. DraftKings released its latest odds on who will be the Niners’ selection and have Jones listed as the betting favorite.
Mac Jones is now the favorite to be drafted with the third pick in the NFL Draft.

Jones to San Francisco? pic.twitter.com/nTmZEvwuOs
It’s interesting to see sportsbooks list Jones as the favorite. According to oddsmakers, the day after Fields completed his second pro day, he was the favorite to be the pick. Here are the previous odds from last week:
Fields (-125)
Jones (+120)
Lance (+350)
Lance is an enticing bet at +400. Some NFL insiders believe the North Dakota State product has the highest ceiling out of the trio of QB prospects and could be enticing for the 49ers. Lynch and Shanahan have stated that they intend to keep incumbent starter Jimmy Garoppolo for at least the 2021 season, which would give Lance some time to learn and develop behind a veteran.
One thing for certain is that Lynch and Shanahan have done a masterful job of keeping their thoughts hidden from the public. Many of the most plugged-in NFL insiders haven’t had a clue who San Francisco is leaning towards throughout the process. ESPN’s Dan Graziano is reporting that the Niners are still undecided about which QB they will take.
Judging by the online reaction, it seems like most of The Faithful are hoping the Jones rumors are just a smokescreen. Although Jones could develop into a terrific pro, he lacks the excitement and potential that Fields or Lance will bring.
We will finally get our answer a week from today.
