“As of last night, Rodgers was convinced he was headed to San Francisco”

The 49ers are reportedly monitoring the Deshaun Watson situation, too.

It’s been a wild ride, and we still have three hours to go before the draft kicks off.

About four hours ago, a report about Aaron Rodgers came out that seemed silly. Fast forward, and Adam Schefter and Jay Glazer have painted the picture that Rodgers is so unhappy that he wants out of Green Bay.

Now you have folks like Trey Wingo saying not only is Rodgers expected to be traded, but he was under the impression that he’s going to be a Niner:

Wingo isn’t the only person to say that. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said San Francisco had monitored the situations of both Rodgers and Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson:

If you’re available, the 49ers have inquired. It’s tough to believe who is telling the truth, especially hours before the NFL Draft.

Owner Jed York tweeted this out, which hints at the Niners selecting a rookie:

Shanahan and Lynch not telling York who the pick is tonight is probably the most believable thing today.

Remember on Monday when Kyle Shanahan said, “lots of stuff can happen between now and the draft?” He was not lying.

After all of this, I think it’s safe to say Mac Jones isn’t an option. The 49ers' finalists are likely down to Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, and Trey Lance. It wouldn’t surprise me if Shanahan and Lynch were the only two people who know the pick.

Let’s play a game: Rank the quarterbacks in order of how much you’d like to see them play for the 49ers. I’ll start.

  • Watson
  • Rodgers
  • Fields
  • Lanc
  • Wilso
  • Jones

This isn’t popular, but I believe Watson was better than Rodgers last year and would be next year. Age plays a big factor. But obviously, you can’t go wrong with a Hall of Famer, and Rodgers to San Francisco would instantly make the 49ers Super Bowl favorites.

Now, if I were a betting man and had to pick which is the most likely scenario, I’d cut the pie in half and say Rodgers and Fields. There is too much smoke around this to ignore it. If no Rodgers, then the Niners “settle” for Fields.
