NFL Network’s Michael Giardi doubles down on the 49ers wanting a first-round pick for Garoppolo

NFL Network’s Michael Giardi was on TV Friday and said the 49ers are asking for a first-round pick for QB Jimmy Garoppolo. That’s similar to a report from Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer earlier in the week. Giardi said the Pats have reportedly been “sniffing around” for another option under center, but were Told Garoppolo would cost a first-round pick. Here’s the video:

This feels like the Niners leaking out info to drive up Garoppolo’s price for a QB-needy team like Carolina, Chicago, or Washington.

Giardi said he’s reading into Bill Belichick and John Lynch being seen together at Alabama’s pro day. If San Francisco knows it could receive a second or third-rounder from New England, it makes sense to play this game with the media.

John Lynch would win Executive of the Year if he flipped Jimmy G. for a first-round pick after missing the majority of the 2020 season. We’ve seen crazier trades happen for worse players.

Some have read into this latest leak that the 49ers intend to keep Garoppolo unless they get a first-round pick from another team. If they do, with all of the Mac Jones talk, would Shanahan sit Jones for a year? I’m trying to think outside of the box, and since Jones was a one-year starter, perhaps Kyle could want him to have a year to sit and watch.
