The San Francisco 49ers have a busy three weeks ahead of them. After trading up to acquire the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, all eyes are on which quarterback general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan will select third overall.
Shanahan attended Alabama’s pro day and got an up-close and personal look at quarterback Mac Jones. While the head coach was checking out Jones, assistant general manager Adam Peters attended Ohio State’s pro day and saw what Justin Fields brings to the table.
The good news is that Shanahan will also have the opportunity to see Fields in person. The Athletic’s Matt Barrows reports that OSU will hold another pro day on April 14 and that Fields’ agent says the plan is to have the QB throw once again.
Per Justin Fields' agent, the plan right now is for Fields to throw again when Ohio State holds pro day No. 2 on April 14. Kyle Shanahan has signaled that the 49ers will be on hand.

Shanahan said he was confident he would get a personal look at Fields during his recent media availability.
“Also, Alabama’s already had one; this is their second one. And just talking with Fields’s agent and everything, we’ll get another one from him too. We’ll be able to see him. That kind of made it an easy decision.”
The 6’3, 228-pound Fields ran an impressive 4.43 40-yard dash and made several eye-popping throws during his recent pro day.
Free-agent Richard Sherman believes San Francisco will select Fields at No. 3 and keep Jimmy Garoppolo for the 2021 season.
NFL insiders seem split on which QB the 49ers will take. Opinions have varied on whether the selection will be Fields, Jones or Trey Lance, but the good news is that Shanahan has plenty of time to do his homework on which signal-caller he wants at the helm for the next decade.
The Niners are in a great position with their roster constructed as is. They have enough talent to compete for a Super Bowl and don’t have to rush whichever rookie they select because of Garoppolo’s presence.
In three weeks, we will find out which QB Shanahan and Lynch believe will be the face of the franchise for the foreseeable future.
