The final day of the 2021 NFL Draft is here. The San Francisco 49ers are slated to make six picks in Rounds 4-7 and still have a few areas of needs they can address.

The Niners could use some depth behind Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk on the wide receivers' depth chart and safety. As we saw in 2020, you also can’t have enough depth in the trenches.

But the organization had a busy first two days at the draft.

Despite all of the outside noise about Alabama’s Mac Jones, San Francisco went with North Dakota State QB Trey Lance at No. 3. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch said they had liked Lance for a long time and simply allowed the rumors to fly when it came to Jones.

Shanahan and Lynch upgraded the trenches with their second pick of the draft when they selected Notre Dame guard Aaron Banks 48th overall. The 49ers initially held pick No. 43 but made a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders to move back five spots. Banks is expected to challenge Daniel Brunskill for the starting right guard spot in training camp.

We saw San Francisco move up into the third round by striking a deal with its NFC West rival, the Los Angeles Rams. The Niners sent their own fourth-round pick (No. 117), plus the fourth-selection from the Raiders (No. 121), to the Rams in exchange for the 88th overall selection.

Most assumed that the 49ers would go with a cornerback, but instead, they selected Ohio State running back Trey Sermon. Lynch and Shanahan more than likely felt comfortable that they would be happy with some of the corners available when they used their second third-round selection.

The Niners were patient and were able to nab Michigan cornerback Ambry Thomas at No. 102.

We could see Lynch make some moves on Day 3, which is typically when we see a ton of trades as teams try and snag their desired prospects.
