We’ll spend most of Wednesday discussing the 49ers 2021 schedule and the leaks that follow. To take a break from that, Akash and I went through the Niners roster to project who would make the team’s final 53 come September.
We’ll likely have a projection before and after training camp, but this will serve as our first installment. A lot can change between now and September. You have rookie minicamp, then minicamp — where the entire team shows up — and that’ll take us to training camp at the end of July.
We talk about the gamble the 49ers took at wide receiver and how they’re banking on Jalen Hurd to pan out.
I posed the question to Akash whether Trey Lance would throw 100 passes this season. That number is a bit low. I’ll raise that to 170, so ten passes per game. What would you guess?
We also discussed who would be the odd man out along the defensive line as well as the offensive line. The trenches on both sides of the ball are significantly better heading into this summer than last year.
You can listen to the episode in its entirety below and see which positions we differ on. Let us know where you think we’re wrong and if there are any egregious misses.
- Who starts at the third linebacker spot in the 49ers' base defense?
- Extra CB or safety?
- Do the 49ers go youth or experience at wide receiver?
