The San Francisco 49ers are expected to be among the contenders during the 2021 NFL season. After an injury-plagued 2020 campaign, the Niners are returning with a roster that is among the deepest in the league.
With a core of George Kittle, Trent Williams, Nick Bosa and Fred Warner, the 49ers should be among the seven NFC playoff teams next season.
Oddsmakers set the over/under win total at 10.5 for San Francisco, tied for the third-most among NFL teams. If the Niners have a successful year, some players will also be in the conversation for individual awards.
DraftKings released its odds for several player awards, and three 49ers are listed among the favorites in their respective categories.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan is tied with Brandon Staley of the Los Angeles Chargers and Kevin Stefanski as the favorites to win the Coach of the Year Award next season.
Shanahan (49ers): +1300
Staley (Chargers): +1300
Stefanski (Browns): +1300
Sean McVay (Rams): +1400
Frank Reich (Colts): +1600
Ron Rivera (WFT): +1600
Sean McDermott (Bills): +1700
Bill Belichick (Patriots): +1800
Sean Payton (Saints): +1800
Arthur Smith (Falcons): +1800
* If you bet $100 on Shanahan and he captures the award, you would win $1,300.
After leading the team to a 13-3 record in 2019, Shanahan finished second in Coach of the Year to John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens.
Another player listed among the favorites for a major award next season is Nick Bosa. The pass-rusher is returning after missing the final 14 games of last season with a torn ACL. Bosa captured the NFL Defensive Rookie Year in 2019. Three players are listed of Bosa to win the award.
Aaron Donald (Rams): +400
Myles Garrett (Browns): +600
T.J. Watt (Steelers): +700
Bosa (49ers): +1100
Joey Bosa (Chargers): +1300
Chase Young (WFT): +1600
Khalil Mack (Bears): +1800
Derwin James (Chargers): +2500
Oddsmakers are also bullish on quarterback Trey Lance’s chances to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award next season. As of now, it looks like Lance will begin his pro career backing up incumbent starter Jimmy Garoppolo. But if the North Dakota State product outplays Garoppolo during the summer, we could see Lance under center in Week 1.
DraftKings has Lance tied with No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson for the best odds to win Rookie of the Year.
Trevor Lawrence (Jaguars): +300
Lance (49ers): +600
Wilson (Jets): +600
Najee Harris (Steelers): +800
Mac Jones (Patriots): +1000
Ja’Marr Chase (Bengals): +1100
Kyle Pitts (Falcons): +1100
DeVonta Smith (Eagles): +1400
Five out of the previous Offensive Rookie of the Year Award winners have been quarterbacks. Lawrence seems like a safe bet given how low the bar is for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Lance’s chances obviously depend on how many games he plays. If the Niners begin the season with a winning streak with Garoppolo at the helm, we likely won’t see Lance start unless Jimmy G suffers an injury.
Which of the three 49ers do you think has the best chance to win a major award? Which of the other coaches, defensive players or rookies do you think would be a good bet?
