Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa threw five interceptions during Tuesday’s practice. Could you imagine the overreactions to Trey Lance having that outing in front of the media?

Yes, Mike McGlinchey’s bigger, and he intends to put ... - KNBR

But McGlinchey told KNBR he’s added weight this offseason, and he looks it. He’s up to 315-320 pounds, a roughly 15-pound increase. He said it was a “huge emphasis” to get stronger.

McGlinchey is one of the few players who remained around the 49ers’ facility in Santa Clara over the summer, where he said he worked closely with head of strength and conditioning, Dustin Perry, on a program that would provide additional weight and strength. He said he feels that he’s physically back to where he needs to be.

“There wasn’t necessarily a number that I was trying to have, but it was definitely evident that I needed to get stronger,” McGlinchey said. “It was a tough offseason last year all the way through. Everything was shut down. Even our facility was shut down. Food resources were shut down, so I had to figure out and get creative about what I needed to do to stay on top of things. And unfortunately, it just made life on the field a little bit more difficult.”

The isolation of last season, and the 49ers’ spur-of-the-moment relocation to Arizona, where players were literally confined to their rooms except to play football, was extremely taxing.

Young fan writes 20 letters to NFL players, and it was these two 49ers stars who responded

Dezi wrote letters and sent football cards to 20 of his favorite NFL players across the league and just two players responded. They also happened to be two of the biggest stars from Dezi’s favorite team, 49ers tight end George Kittle and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

“Me and George both used to be those fans, you know looking up to guys in the league,” said Garoppolo. “Now the roles have turned a little bit, so it’s just a cool chance to give back a little bit.”

“You know, to show someone you actually care, that they took the time to write you a handwritten note, and it just takes a little bit of effort for you to be able to open that, sign something put it back in the envelope and send it right back,” said Kittle. “It might take you five seconds, but the 10-year-old kid in Iowa might cherish that for the next 20 years.”

The phone call that ended the 49ers’ Aaron Rodgers pursuit

“And Matt told me what I pretty much thought he would,” Shanahan told The Athletic. “He’s like, ‘Aw, you can have him call him, do whatever you want, but you know there’s no way in hell that we’re trading him to you guys.’ … And I came in the next day, I told John, ‘You can call if you want, but I don’t want to waste your time.’ And John quickly agreed and so he never ended up calling.”

Defense Wins Championships & George Kittle Says 49ers Unit is ‘Scary’

“I don’t know if you guys saw this but Nick Bosa is coming back and we re-signed Trent Williams. So those guys are pretty good at football from what I remember. They’re pretty decent,” Kittle said.

“I actually just saw something on ESPN that said ‘Who are the top two pass rushers in the NFL’ and Nick Bosa didn’t even make the Top 10, which is crazy because that dude won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and he’s just going to keep getting better and better. People tend to forget when you take a year off, but it is what it is.”

Vince Wilfork’s Son Charged With Stealing Ex-NFL Star Dad’s Super Bowl Rings

TMZ Sports has confirmed ... 39-year-old Wilfork reported his valuables stolen in May 2021, claiming his SB rings, AFC championship rings, 2001 Miami Hurricanes national championship ring and other jewelry were missing from his family home in Texas.

The 13-year NFL vet told cops he first noticed the items were missing in May 2020 ... but was unsure if they were in storage or at his home in Florida.

According to records obtained by TMZ Sports, a Patriots fan contacted Wilfork after coming across a listing for his SB rings on a Facebook page ... asking if the items were really legit.

Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady appear to poke fun at the Packers while preparing for celebrity golf match

“I do think you do have a partner,” Brady told DeChambeau, “that would probably have liked to go for it a little more often than he has in the past. So Bryson, I’m glad you’re encouraging him to kind of go for it when it’s on the line ... rather than just, you know, knocking it into the fairway or something like that and (trying) to play for the next shot.”

Rodgers’ response: “Well, I usually don’t get the option.”

NFL minicamp live: News, notes and happenings as 18 teams continue offseason workouts

Following a rough start that included a torrential downpour, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa weathered the storm and settled down. Although it may sound alarming that Tagovailoa threw five interceptions in team drills, there are several factors to consider.

“We’re going to have to play in the rain,” Tagovailoa said. “We’re going to have to play in conditions where the ball is going to be wet, where it’s gonna be cold, it’s gonna be hot. You’ve got to expect the unexpected. … I think today, the emphasis for us quarterbacks, we wanted to be aggressive today within the pass game. We wanted to see if we could fit throws in.”
