This week's biggest talking points. have been Kyle Shanahan’s appearance on Tim Kawakami’s podcast and Mike McGlinchey adding 15 pounds.
Shanahan covered a ton of topics. He jokingly said, “DeMeco Ryans wouldn’t be saying ‘all gas no brakes’ every single second.” There’s no way anybody enjoyed that phrase.
Shanahan had an interesting quote about mobile quarterbacks:
I’ve always been intrigued with that element of the game. I’ve really only had to do it one year hard in my career when I had Robert Griffin III in Washington. I did get to learn a lot with how much easier defenses are to go in those two years that I had Robert compared to every other year. Now, you’ve got to be able to grow, you’ve got to be able to do a lot of stuff.
That’s what’s cool about this process of us moving up there so much. I got a chance to really get to know all these quarterbacks. and just to see the type of person Trey was and everything...I know he’s got a lot of work to do and I know he’s not a finished product, but the vision that I saw, and John saw, and most of our coaches saw on tape when you meet him, you believe you can get that done.
Because you believe in the kid, how smart he is, how hard he works, his passion. And now it’s just a matter of time and a matter of giving him the opportunities, giving him the reps, and trying to put the right people around him to help him.
Shanahan spoke about how defenses have to play 11-on-11 when you’re lined up in shotgun or pistol — which is when the running back lines up directly behind the quarterback in shotgun.
If you remember Shanahan’s presser before the draft, he spoke about wanting to find Drew Brees, who can move like Lamar Jackson. Hearing Shanahan discuss his potential plans for Lance, it was evident that he’s excited about the opportunity to have a quarterback bail him out when the play call doesn’t work.
Other topics include:
- Mike Florio being Mike Florio
- Does Nick Mullens throw a pass for the Eagles this season?
- Mike McGlinchey taking ownership of a poor 2020 campaign
McGlinchey spoke about how difficult it was to stay in a hotel for 40 days and only to have football as a way to leave his room. I liked how McGlinchey was vulnerable and admitted how the critics and social media affected his play last season.
We discuss those topics and much more. Please, as always, rate, subscribe and review.
