The trade compensation hasn’t been finalized yet. Schefter said it could be “second and a fifth-round pick, or a second-round pick with a swap of other picks,” but it doesn’t sound like Atlanta is getting a first-rounder or sniffing anything close to that.
I wonder how serious the San Francisco 49ers were and if they made a legitimate offer for Jones. It’s safe to assume the front office picked up the phone, but if they did make an offer, it wasn’t a strong one as a second and Day 3 pick for Julio isn’t much at all.
If you’re bummed about the team not landing Jones, the Niners likely saw his age and contract and current investments into the receiver position ultimately as too much to move for Jones.
Plus, if San Francisco were to offer a second-rounder, they wouldn’t be picking until the third round in the 2022 NFL Draft. I’m sure there are multiple reasons why the 49ers didn’t land Jones.
The silver lining is that the Seahawks or Rams didn’t, either.
