49ers WR Travis Benjamin leaves game with head injury

NFL: Las Vegas Raiders at San Francisco 49ers Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

49ers wide receiver Travis Benjamin left Sunday’s preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders in the third quarter and walked to the locker room. Per a team release, Benjamin is being evaluated for a head injury. Benjamin had returned one kick for 16 yards on the day.

The veteran speedster Benjamin is competing for a spot on the 49ers 53-man roster. After opting out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19, Benjamin joined the Niners this preseason and has hauled in two receptions for 24 yards and a touchdown. Over his eight-year NFL career, the Miami alum has amassed more than 3,000 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns.

We’ll provide an update on Benjamin’s issue, whether it was for a concussion or something else, and the rest of the team after the game once Kyle Shanahan speaks to the media.

Benjamin’s best case to make the team as a returner. After a big kick return from Elijah Mithcell, paired with this injury, Benjamin’s chances of making the roster just got worse.
