The 49ers returned to the practice field Thursday but were without a few notable players. Running back, Elijah Mitchell wasn’t on hand during the open portion of practice. Mitchell didn’t practice on Wednesday either. This isn’t the first time, and it won’t be the last time I say this: if players don’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday, they usually don’t dress Sunday.
Arik Armstead sat out with an adductor injury. Kyle Shanahan said this would be the case early in the week, and the team would continue to monitor Armstead. He should play Sunday night. Defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans was complimentary of Armstead’s play this season, saying how much Arik’s affected the quarterback and made an impact.
Speaking of Ryans, he would not tip his hand as to who would start at cornerback. “We have options there at cornerback with DeMo, E-Man, Josh, and Dre.” However, when asked a follow-up question, Ryans repeated, “we have a lot of guys who could help us.”
Ryans added that Norman “is ahead of many people just because of his mental side” and is a “true pro and leader.” For Lenoir, Ryans said, “he just competed and never shied away from anybody or anything, and I love that about DeMo.” Those sound like your starters at cornerback.
