“Vic Fangio was in San Francisco today talking to [general manager] John Lynch out there,” Allbright said. “I don’t think he’s taking the [defensive coordinator] job there. That’s DeMeco Ryans. But he may consult [a] year, take a look at it, and kind of figure things out.
“I would say the big difference is Trey’s got a little more zing on [his passes],” Kittle responded. “He definitely has a big arm. He can make throws all over the field, which is really cool to see. Jimmy can, too; they just do it differently. Trey moves around a lot better. He’s kind of a freak athlete. I’m excited to see Trey’s improvement, really.”
“I’m going to be ready to go Week 1, without a doubt,” Lance said. “I’m super excited for the opportunity. I feel like I learned a lot. I’ll continue to learn. But yeah, excited to get it going again.”
“I think they keep Jimmy until you find somebody else,” Montana said. “I don’t think Trey’s ready to play yet, as myself and after talking to some of the players. I think it’s one of those things that if you can keep Jimmy healthy, he plays well enough to get you here.”
“Wide receivers coach Wes Welker will join head coach Mike McDaniel’s staff in the same role, according to Miami-based reporter Armando Salguero. A league source confirmed Welker will not return to the 49ers. The move will allow Welker to be closer to his family, who did not live in the Bay Area during his tenure.”
