Golden Nuggets: Sorting Through The Post-Combine Rumor Mill

Your daily San Francisco 49ers news for Monday, March 7th, 2022

A ‘Wild’ Jimmy Garoppolo Rumor Was Heard At NFL Combine

““The wildest rumor I heard this week? Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo potentially pairing with New Orleans,” Fowler wrote. “This would be a surprise since many around the league expect Jameis Winston to return to the Saints. But if Rodgers and Wilson aren’t moved, Garoppolo becomes one of the top options available. Maybe New Orleans at least kicks this idea around.””

Fowler: 49ers’ Laken Tomlinson expected to spark bidding war in free agency

“[Tomlinson is] emerging as a top guard available and could spark a bidding war closer to free agency,” wrote Jeremy Fowler in a recent feature for ESPN. “The Bengals, Panthers, Vikings, Steelers, Jets, and Seahawks are among teams that will be in the guard market.”

49ers met with DE Dominique Robinson at the NFL Scouting Combine

Robinson, a wideout turned pass rusher, registered 28 tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss, and 4.5 sacks through 12 game appearances as a senior in 2021, per Sports Reference.

49ers Rumors: Charvarius Ward Expected to Be Targeted in FA; Chargers Also Linked

“ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported the Los Angeles Chargers and San Francisco 49ers are interested in the free-agent cornerback. “He might not be paid as much as, say, a J.C. Jackson or Carlton Davis,” Fowler wrote. “But don’t be surprised if he’s awfully close.””

6 key 49ers free agents who may be gone this offseason

“Even if the 49ers remove Jimmy Garoppolo’s contract from their books by the time the league year opens, they’ll still have to make some decisions on which of their own free agents they’re going to let walk. They’ll have a little money to play with but not enough to retain them all, and they’re probably going to have to let some good players get away.”
