Kyle’s update, 3:17 p.m. PT: It’s official. The 49ers announced the signing of Verrett.
Jason Verrett was in Santa Clara at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday watching the 49ers beat up on the Seattle Seahawks. Verrett was in a suite, and that may be the last time he’s not field level for a Niners game this season.

Multiple reports have surfaced that the team intends to sign Jason Verrett to the practice squad. Kyle Shanahan has hinted at bringing Verrett back for what feels like a couple of weeks now. The signing isn’t official, but appears imminent.
The 49ers may need Verrett sooner than later, as starting cornerback Charvarius Ward missed most of Week 14 with a groin injury. There’s no update about Ward and whether he’ll miss significant time. Kyle Shanahan will speak to the media later this afternoon and will have Ward’s MRI results by then.
Shanahan said he’s “not sure” if Ward’s injury is long-term post game. Isaiah Oliver stepped back in as the nickel cornerback while Deommodore Lenoir played on the outside. At first, Samuel Womack came in and Lenoir stayed at nickel.
The 49ers have options at cornerback, and Verrett will give the team a veteran who is trusted in the locker room.
