Kyle Shanahan says the 49ers goal is to have 2 playoff home games after clinching NFC West

A bye would do wonders

The San Francisco 49ers are the 2023 NFC division champions. This is the third time in the last four seasons that the Niners have accomplished this feat. That also makes it back-to-back division titles for Kyle Shanahan’s Niners.

Perhaps the most impressive accomplishment has been the dominance in the division for the 49ers. They still have one more game against the Los Angeles Rams this season, but San Francisco is 11-0 during the past two seasons in the NFC West. If you count the Seahawks' playoff game in 2022, it’s 12-0.

After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan emphasized how the team’s job is far from done, despite clinching a playoff berth:

“Our No. 1 goal was to get in the playoffs. We got that last week. Winning this division. Getting it last year. Getting it this year. You just want to get in the playoffs. When you win your division, you get a much better road in the playoffs. I know the guys were pumped about it.

But now our biggest thing is making sure we got two home games. And trying to get a bye. That’s what we’re focused on.”
