Ravens vs. 49ers 1st quarter thread: Starting cornerback, Jason Verrett?

Deommodore Lenoir’s injury must be more serious than we thought

The 49ers elevated cornerback Jason Verrett to the active roster earlier on Monday. He’ll take the spot of Samuel Womack. What we didn’t know was what Verrett’s role would be. Womack has generally been a gunner on the punt team and covered kicks.

Verrett has rarely done that during his previous tenure with San Francisco. They wouldn’t make him do that this time around, right? Based on warmups before the game, Verrett was set to start. He practiced with the first team opposite of Charvarius Ward.

Seeing No. 22 on the field has to give the 49ers a boost. But as a starter? Wow. That’s unexpected. We’ll see if the game shakes out that way.

It is also a sign that Deommodore Lenoir’s rib injury is more severe than the team had originally thought. Lenoir suffered a rib contusion, but he was a full participant during practice this week. So, perhaps his injury got worse. Or, the 49ers are playing it safe.

The 49ers are up to 6.5 point favorites with the total at 47 on DraftKings Sportsbook.
