How the 49ers can clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC in Week 17

It’ll take another massive upset.

The San Francisco 49ers are big favorites over the Washington Commanders for Week 17. As you know by now, any hopes of the Niners clinching the No. 1 seed goes out the window if San Francisco doesn’t win their final two games of the regular season.

The 49ers can clinch the top seed in the NFC with a win this week paired with a Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles loss.

The Lions travel to Dallas to face the Cowboys. Detroit just clinched the NFC North and head into Week 17 in a flat spot. You have to question how motivated they’ll be with the division wrapped up. Meanwhile, the Cowboys lost again on the road to the Miami Dolphins in a game they should’ve won.

Dak Prescott and the Cowboys have been much better at home this season. As a 6.5-point favorite, Dallas should come away victorious.

The Eagles are 10.5 point favorites against the Arizona Cardinals at home. We’ve been saying that something has been off with the Eagles all year, and they proved it once again on Christmas. Philadelphia came dangerously close to losing against the New York Giants at home. The same Giants team that made a change at quarterback at halftime.

Arizona is lousy on defense, but Kyler Murray should have plenty of success on the other side of the ball. The Cardinals will need some turnover luck to pull out a victory.

So, on paper, the 49ers may have to wait another week to clinch the No. 1 seed, unless there’s a big upset by Arizona.
