The 49ers didn’t have practice on Wednesday. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said that Wednesday’s are walkthroughs this late in the year. The team still has to release an injury report.

Here’s who they deemed as “did not participate” in practice:

DT Arik Armstead (foot, knee)
G Aaron Banks (toe)
S Ji’Ayir Brown (knee)
WR Jauan Jennings (concussion)
T Jaylon Moore (concussion)

These players were limited:

LB Oren Burks (knee)
TE Ross Dwelley (ankle)
DT Javon Hargrave (hamstring)
WR Deebo Samuel (neck)
CB Ambry Thomas (knee, hand)
T Trent Williams (groin)

The following players practiced in full:

WR Danny Gray (shoulder)
RB Elijah Mitchell (knee)
QB Brock Purdy (left shoulder)

Here’s Shanahan on Ji’Ayir Brown’s knee sprain: “There’s concern. We’re not ruling him out this week, but there’s concern. That’s why he can’t go today.”

Logan Ryan, who signed with the Niners three weeks ago, would be the next man up at safety if Brown can’t play. Brown has plenty of potential, but his missed tackles have cost the defense in recent weeks. The trade-off would be his tenacity and aggression for Ryan’s experience.

Shanahan was asked who the options after Brown would be, but wouldn’t commit to a specific player:

What are your options at safety if Ji’Ayir can’t go?

“Well, we’ve got someone on practice squad. We’ve moved other positions there, a nickel and corner, to have some depth there. We’ve got some options.”

Is CB Isaiah Oliver a possibility?

“Yeah, Oliver’s a possibility.”

Is S Logan Ryan a possibility?

“Anybody who says they’re a corner or safety is a possibility. If those guys go down, then I would say a linebacker is a possibility. [John] Lynch will be after that.”

Banks is the other significant injury as that would cause a shake up along the offensive line. Shanahan doesn’t believe Banks’ toe injury is as worse as the one that kept him out for two games earlier this season, but also acknowledged that injury was “pretty bad.”

Still no update on Trent Williams, but the fact that he’s limited is an encouraging sign that he didn’t suffer a groin tear that will keep him out for an extended period.
