And so, the game many San Francisco 49ers fans circled when the schedule was announced has arrived. The battle of the two NFC juggernauts is on the way. The 49ers travel to Philadelphia to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in a matchup that has NFC Seeding, the NFC West, and other variables hanging in the balance.
The 49ers bounced back from their three-game losing streak in a big way, taking their frustrations out on (what can or could be considered...or argued as) decent teams: The Jacksonville Jaguars, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Seattle Seahawks. While many of the small issues still can creep up on defense here and there, the 49ers are not a team anyone wants to run into. Now they continue digging themselves out of the hole by going up against the Eagles who have the current best record in the NFL. This will be an afternoon game. Kevin Burkhardt has the play-by-play and Greg Olsen has commentary.
If the 49ers can win, it puts them one game behind an Eagles team that will be going to the difficult part of their schedule. A win would also make the following week against the Seattle Seahawks the game that could give the 49ers the NFC West.
For the 49ers, Defensive Lineman Arik Armstead is questionable and was not practicing, but has indicated he will be playing on Sunday. Running back Jordan Mason (hamstring) and wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud (rib) are also questionable. Finally, Safety George Odum is out for at least two months due to a biceps tear.
The 49ers have activated wide receiver Chris Conley and safety Erik Harris from the practice squad. Harris should help with the aforementioned Odum injury and Conley should be able to fill in a role left if McCloud can’t suit up.
The Eagles have a bit more injury issues. Zach Cunningham and Justin Evans are both ruled out as of Saturday evening. Tight End Dallas Goedert is doubtful, but is making an attempt to play.
On the gambling side of things, the 49ers are favored by three points. They began being a 1.5 favorite and things settled on three points. Many think this is an indication on how good the 49ers are, it can also be seen as the way Vegas makes money. It seems like money has rolled in for the 49ers so take from that as you will.
