Deebo Samuel says the 49ers will play their starters ‘for a good bit’ against the Rams

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel had his weekly appearance on the Up & Adams Show, where he discussed a variety of topics, including clinching the No. 1 seed.

Deebo was asked who was the most hyped player in the locker room once the Niners found out they clinched the bye week, and Samuel said it was Trent Williams:

“Definitely Trent. I just think he’s been in the league for 14 years now. You know, I remember his first time being in front of the team in 2021 when we made the playoff run. He was like, ‘bro I’ve been in the league 12 years, and never made the playoffs.’

So, you know, it kinda felt different from him. And now, hearing him talk and being the No. 1 seed, and we’re two games away from the Super Bowl, you’ve got to think about everything that Trent’s been through from Washington. And for him to come here and be at the top of his game still being at that age. He’s trying to write his own book.”

Kyle Shanahan shared his thoughts about rest versus rust. Here’s what Deebo said on the same topic:

“You definitely want to keep the flow going, but you also want to give your body a rest. So I feel like we’re going to play this game for a good bit, just to keep the groove going and not take too much time off. We’re going to continue practicing hard and continue to do the things that we do.”

So, there you have it. Expect to see the 49ers starters on the field for at least a quarter. Perhaps a full half. Shanahan will probably want to see his players accomplish something before pulling them.

Sunday’s game is an ideal opportunity for players like Logan Ryan or Jason Verrett so the Niners can determine whether they will be on the field during the playoffs.
