We break down the 49ers snap count in their 24-3 win over the Arizona Cardinals.

We're back with another breakdown of the 49ers weekly snap count. The only player not to get a snap was quarterback Colin Kaepernick. The offensive line got in a full complement of snaps, while the wide receivers had a fairly balanced mix. Michael Crabtree led receivers with 30 snaps, which was nine down from last week. Crabtree also led receivers with five targets as Alex Smith was able to spread the ball around quite effectively int he passing game.

Randy Moss continued with his usual number of snaps. He has been between around 18 and 25 snaps per game and has made his share of contributions even when the ball isn't coming his way. Obviously he had the big catch and run on Monday, but he has also helped stretch the field to open things up underneath. It was nice though to see him flash some of that in-his-prime speed to burn Sam Acho. Although Acho is a linebacker, he isn't the slowest of linebackers. Nonetheless, Moss had little trouble turning on the jets and racing to the end zone.

On defense, the most notable change from the past was seeing Clark Haggans get a lot of playing time. He finished with 13 snaps as the 49ers got both him and Ricky Jean Francois a solid amount of playing time.

We break down Jim Harbaugh's post-game quote about jive turkeys.

Jim Harbaugh may have had the quote of the century following the 49ers 24-3 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football. Harbaugh was asked about some articles over the last week and a half that raised issues about Alex Smith's confidence. You can read one such article by Jim Trotter.

Coach Harbaugh was having none of that. When asked about the article he had a very pointed response. Coach Harbaugh pointed to how it was a reporter just looking to create something. The best part was caught by nfl.com:

H: I think it's just a lot of gobble, gobble, turkey, you know?

Q: What is gobble, gobble turkey?

H: Just gobble, gobble, gobble turkey from jive turkey gobblers. I think that paints a pretty good picture.

Just when you think Jim Harbaugh cannot get any more awesome, he goes and rolls out that absolutely money quotation. There Jim Harbaugh experience continues to get better and better.

Thanks to @geez49 for reminding me of a classic scene from Semi Pro:

We provide an initial breakdown of the 49ers dominating win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Well, my concern about a tough divisional battle ended up being for naught. The San Francisco 49ers went into Glendale, Arizona and thoroughly dominated the Cardinals en route to a 24-3 win. The late highlight had to be the 49ers defense stiffening up near the goal line to prevent a garbage-time touchdown.

The game was not nearly as the close might otherwise indicate. The 49ers struggled with penalties on two of their first three drives, leaving some points on the board, but otherwise put together a strong effort. On the offensive side of the ball, Alex Smith set career highs in completion percentage (94.7%) and passer rating (157.1), accruing 232 yards and three touchdowns.

Smith benefited from some great YAC work by Michael Crabtree and Randy Moss. Crabtree had a great end zone catch for a touchdown, and then scored a second touchdown after weaving his way through the defense. Randy Moss put together his own big game on a 47-yard catch and run touchdown. He dodged some tacklers and then turned on the jets.

On defense, the 49ers took some time to get sacks, but the pressure was there all night on John Skelton. The 49ers finally did break through for some sacks, with four on the night, including two for Aldon Smith. It should also shock nobody that the Cardinals rushing game was non-existent. LaRod Stephens-Howling finished with eight rushes for six yards.

The 49ers head into their bye week at the halfway point of their season, sitting at 6-2 and holding a two-game lead in the NFC West. The road division win is a big one as they are the first NFC West team to win a division game on the road. There is a lot of football left, but the 49ers have started to take some control in the NFC West.

There has been a lot of talk about the illegal helmet-to-helmet hits we have seen around the league. Dashon Goldson has occasionally been on those plays, but frequently enough, Goldson shows the effective and legal way to make a big hit to break up a play.

The Arizona Cardinals attempted to get something going on an Early Doucet crossing route, but as the GIF below shows, Dashon Goldson was having none of that. He thoroughly blew up Doucet, who had no chance of hanging on to that ball. Thankfully Doucet was able to get up and off the field. However, for those wondering about flags, see how Goldson leads entirely with his shoulder and comes in below Doucet's head. Textbook hit by The Hawk

The 49ers have opened upa 24-0 lead on the Arizona Cardinals thanks to a big game from Michael Crabtree, who has two touchdowns thus far. However, Randy Moss has quickly made his presence felt. He set a perfect block on a big third down conversion by Crabtree, and was promptly rewarded with a pass his way. Yea, the old man turned it into a 47-yard touchdown.

Randy brought out his peek-a-boo celebration and a quick point to the jersey in case anybody forgot who he was. I don't think these Cardinals will forget that touchdown anytime soon.
