Mike Iupati, Jonathan Martin and Joe Staley didn't have strong games against the Bears.

When it rains, it pours. Right about the time that the Chicago Bears started their comeback and right about the time the San Francisco 49ers needed a strong drive from its offensive line, it started its decline. The 49ers didn't allow a sack in the first half, but allowed four in the second, including two on the potential game-winning drive.

The run blocking wasn't particularly strong for much of the game, but I thought the pass blocking was decent throughout the first half. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick had a bad game overall, and showed a troubling tendency to get himself out of the pocket before his protection actually broke down. Then in the second half, that protection ... broke down.

As usual, I'm here to break down every sack. One of them was "eh" and not really a sack per se, but it's officially credited as one so I'm going to show it.

First Sack: 10:26, 3rd Quarter: 1st and 10 at CHI 30: Kaepernick sacked for 0 yards (Stephen Paea)

Like I said, this one is a little ticky tacky. As far as who is to blame, I think there's plenty to go around. Left guard Mike Iupati never quite gets containment on his guy, and that forces Kaepernick to move first. Joe Staley has his man initially but at some point the whole thing breaks down. At some point, the entire line is just broken up and moved around -- which is how the play was designed, of course. I feel like Jonathan Martin did the best against his man on that play.

This is kind of one of those "pick your poison" plays when discerning who is at fault.

Second Sack: 11:01, 4th Quarter: 1st and 10 at SF 37: Kaepernick sacked for -5 yards (Shea McClellin)

This one isn't too hard to figure out. The right side of the line breaks down late, with Jonathan Martin's guy getting pressure on Kaepernick, as well as the guy Frank Gore ran into after the fake. But it's Staley and Iupati who eventually lose their guys to the outside, and both cut inside to level Kaepernick big time. Of course, I think Kaepernick held onto the football far too long on this play. He had some guys open and didn't take the shot.

Third Sack: 6:55, 4th Quarter: 1st and 10 at SF 20: Kaepernick sacked for -6 yards (Willie Young)

This was one of the most important drives of the game and Martin was solely responsible for the sack on this play. Young just beats him without too much issue. Martin backs up too far and gives up the inside line to Kaepernick, who was just about to fire off a pass to his left side. Not a good look, here.

Fourth Sack: 3:27, 4th Quarter: 2nd and 8 at CHI 43: Kaepernick sacked for -5 yards (Willie Young)

I guess you could argue that Alex Boone could have hustled back or something like that, but really, it's all on Martin here. Young beats him again, and handily at that. This was yet another huge play on a huge drive and it's not surprising that Kaepernick struggled in the second half given that he was almost constantly under assault. The offensive line broke down at the worst time, in other words.

The San Francisco 49ers brought out Snoop Dogg to perform at halftime of their Sunday Night Football game against the Chicago Bears. I thought he was a Steelers fan, but a check from the 49ers cashes just the same!

The San Francisco 49ers apparently decided to pull out all the stops for their Levi's Stadium regular season opener. The team brought in all their team Hall of Fame members for a pre-game ceremony, and they had local favorite Pat Monahan of the band Train perform the National Anthem. However, halftime took things to another level as they brought in Snoop Dogg to perform.

There were some rumblings a week ago that this might happen, but it seemed a little random. But nonetheless, Snoop was in the house, wearing a No. 5 49ers jersey with "Coach Snoop" on the back. He coaches a Pee Wee league team, so I'm assuming it is something to do with that. I was under the impression he was a Steelers fan, but who really knows.

The 49ers social media team got several vine videos of Snoop. They opened with this vide of him meeting Michael Crabtree as the latter was heading to the locker room at halftime. That was followed by other Vine videos of Snoop going on stage and performing.

The San Francisco 49ers blew a big opportunity on Sunday as they lost a 28-20 decision to the Chicago Bears. The loss drops the 49ers to 1-1. We take a look at the wasted opportunities.

The San Francisco 49ers put a full meltdown on display as they blew a 17-0 lead and lost by a final score of 28-20. The 49ers jumped out early, but as has become an all too frequent occurrence they let the foot off the gas, and mistakes cost them. Colin Kaepernick had one of the worst games of his career, equaling his career-high with 3 interceptions.

The 49ers meltdown seem to work in conjunction with a crazy amount of penalties. There were a mix of good, bad and ticky-tack calls, but the 49ers just did not adjust, and it cost them big.

The big story for the Bears was the dominant performance by Brandon Marshall. The wide receiver was listed as questionable heading into the game, but he dominated in the red zone. Jay Cutler found Marshall three times inside the red zone, as the 49ers could not find an answer for the big receiver. Jimmie Ward in particular struggled against Marshall.

We can complain all we want about the penalties, but the 49ers still looked awful in the second half. They had their opportunities to do somethings, and Kap made too many bad decisions. They had one last chance late as they finally got a drive going, but it came up short.

And now the 49ers are 1-1, and need to figure out what the hell they're doing before they head down to Arizona next week. This was a horrible performance by a team that is better than the Chicago Bears. The way this went down was embarrassing. What a way to open Levi's Stadium.

49ers tight end Vance McDonald suffered a knee injury in the second quarter of their Week 2 contest with the Chicago Bears. His return is questionable.

Fooch's Update: McDonald was back in to start the third quarter.

The San Francisco 49ers announced that tight end Vance McDonald suffered a knee injury and is questionable to return to their Sunday Night Football matchup with the Chicago Bears. There is no word on the severity, so we'll keep an eye out for any potential return.

Shortly before the 49ers announced the McDonald injury, third string tight end Derek Carrier popped in and made a fantastic 22-yard catch to get the 49ers down inside the 10-yard line. Carrier leapt and hauled in the pass, took a big hit, and held on for the catch. The 49ers followed that up two plays later with a Frank Gore touchdown run to take a 17-0 lead.

Carrier is a wide receiver convert, and pass catching has been his strength. With McDonald a question mark to return, we could see more of Carrier as the 49ers head into the second half looking to put this game away.
