The San Francisco 49ers pulled off a stunning victory, defeating the New Orleans Saints in overtime by a final score of 27-24. We take an initial look at the game.

The San Francisco 49ers somehow came away with an unbelievable win on Sunday, defeating the New Orleans Saints 27-24 in overtime. The 49ers jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but seemed ready to cough it all back up. The Saints took the lead with under 2 minutes remaining in regulation, but the 49ers responded with a touchdown that included a crazy 51-yard pass. There was so much to this game, and we'll get to all of it.

The 49ers struggled with drops all day long, and it seemed like they were not going to give the 49ers a chance to win. Instead, they somehow figured it out, and managed a late field goal in OT. I am absolutely amazed at how all this went down. We can't even begin to account for the number of crazy things that happened in the closing minutes. Whether it be Colin Kaepernick's huge pass to Michael Crabtree, Jimmy Graham's near miracle touchdown at the end of regulation, or the entire overtime. It was a wild one.

The 49ers are now 5-4, and their playoff chances have gotten a HUGE boost with this win. They travel back to Santa Clara tonight, and then head back east to face the New York Giants in Week 11. They'll have Aldon Smith back for the game, and suddenly things are getting a whole lot more interesting.

The San Francisco 49ers gave up a touchdown pass to Brandin Cooks, and as the GIF above shows, Cooks blew past Jimmie Ward. What is tough to figure out is whether or not Eric Reid was supposed to provide some help.

We'll check with the coaches film later this week, but if you look at the GIF, you can see Reid sort of standing there deep down the field. It seems like he could have slid over and help Ward. We can't know who had what role with certainty, but that's at least how it appeared. My guess is Vic Fangio will be asked about it later this week, and/or one or both of the players will comment on it after the game.

The San Francisco 49ers suffered a pair of injuries in the first half. Nose tackle Ian Williams and wide receiver/return man Bruce Ellington were both carted to the locker room.

Fooch's Update: Both players have been ruled out with their respective injuries. Ellington has an ankle injury, Williams has a leg injury.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver and return man Bruce Ellington, and nose tackle Ian Williams have both gone to the locker room with leg injuries. Ellington was injured on a punt return, and it appeared the trainers were checking out his knee. Williams was injured a couple plays prior, and trainers were looking at his ankle. Both have been declared questionable to return.

The departure of Ellington means the 49ers are limited in the return game. Perrish Cox is listed as the backup punt returner, while Carlos Hyde is listed as the backup kick returner. The 49ers received a punt late in the second quarter, and Cox was the guy back for it.

Quinton Dial will replace Williams at nose tackle. Glenn Dorsey was the primary nose tackle last season after Williams broke his ankle, but is on injured reserve at the moment. Dorsey has the return designation, and is back at practice. If he is activated next week and Williams misses any time with this injury, we could see Dorsey split time with Dial. Or maybe Dial will work his way into a short term starting role. There are some options.
