After too many years of waiting, all-world pass rusher Charles Haley was finally voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday. His induction will take place later this summer in Canton, Ohio, at which point he will get his gold jacket, and his bust.

When anybody is inducted into the Hall of Fame, they are introduced by a person of their choosing. On Saturday, Haley said when he retired, he had hoped Bill Walsh would one day be able to induct him. Unfortunately Coach Walsh passed away, and so Haley has a decision to make. It turns out he has narrowed down the choice to two people diametrically opposed in the minds of San Francisco 49ers fans.

Yep, he's deciding between the previous owner of the 49ers, and the current owner of the Dallas Cowboys. This is not remotely shocking considering he spent significant time with both teams. The 49ers drafted Haley, and he led the team in sacks each of his six seasons with the team. The 49ers then traded him to the Cowboys, and he was a big part of the Cowboys three Super Bowl teams. The combined time allowed him to become the only NFL player to play in and win five Super Bowls.

A player does not enter the Hall of Fame with a given team. I don't think Haley will be disrespecting either of his franchises with his choice of speaker. That being said, I think we all want to see Eddie D introduce him later this summer.

Sunday, February 1st, 2015 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from around the Internet.

The biggest football game of the season is here and the San Francisco 49ers are, of course, not in it. Instead, they're setting fire to everything they built over the past couple seasons but hey, at least we had some good news yesterday. The first bit of good news is that Charles Haley finally made it into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

It's ridiculous that it took this long for Haley to get in, given what he was able to accomplish over the course of his career. I understand the people who vote have a whole lot on their plates -- it's not an easy task to narrow down the list each year when there are more guys that deserve being in than there are guys that can get in.

The other piece of news isn't "good" per se, but it's not bad either. Just a little unexpected -- linebacker Chris Borland received a vote for defensive rookie of the year. I think he certainly played at a high enough level to earn that kind of award, but I think it's kind of crazy to vote for him over a guy like Aaron Donald, or even Khalil Mack. Still, cool to see Borland get some kind of recognition for what he was able to pull off.

After too many years of waiting, former San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Charles Haley has been voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. We break down his dynamic career.

Fooch's Update: The HOF made it official, along with the rest of the class: Jerome Bettis, Tim Brown, Bill Polian, Junior Seau, Will Shields, Mick Tinglehoff, Ron Wolf.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has not yet announced the Class of 2015, but rumors are swirling. According to one report, Charles Haley is finally going to be enshrined in Canton. Thus far, there is word that Jerome Bettis and Ron Wolf are in, with Bill Polian rumored to be getting in as well.

This year marked Haley's sixth straight year as a finalist on the ballot. Each of the previous five classes were certainly deserving, but it has been ridiculous that Haley might only just now be making it in. That being said, if this is true huge congrats to one of the most fearsome pass rushers in NFL history. We'll update this once word is official.

One of Haley's claims to fame is that he is the only player in NFL history to get five Super Bowl rings. Other players have gotten up there combining playing with front office or coaching, but Haley is the only player to play in and win five Super Bowls. In 12 seasons (not including 1998 when he only played in the playoffs), Haley's teams won their division 10 times. The 10-6 49ers finished third in 1991, and the 4-12 49ers finished fourth in 1999. It is a team game, but that is still a pretty crazy accomplishment.

The San Francisco 49ers drafted Haley in the fourth round of the 1986 draft. He started out as an outside linebacker, and then switched to defensive end after he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys. He finished his career with 100.5 sacks, leading the 49ers in sacks each of his first six seasons. He suffered a back injury in 1996 that forced him to retire. Two years later he made a brief cameo with the 49ers in the 1998 playoffs and the 1999 season. He then retired for good having twice been named NFC Defensive Player of the Year, and earning two All Pro and five Pro Bowl nods.

Haley had a fairly tumultuous time in San Francisco, and it eventually led to the team trading him to Dallas. Eddie DeBartolo has since acknowledged it was a big mistake to trade Haley. Haley was an erratic personality during his career, but he was later diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. After his career, Haley and DeBartolo made their peace, and Haley apparently told Eddie a couple years back he would like the latter to introduce him at Canton.

Well, that day might finally be arriving!

The Pro Football Hall of Fame will announce the Class of 2015 Saturday afternoon. We take a look at the television info for when it will air, and why 49ers fans should watch. Maybe Charles Haley will finally get in!

The Super Bowl gets going tomorrow afternoon, but in the meantime, Saturday is a big day for legends of the NFL. The Pro Football Hall of Fame will sort through the finalists and vote on the Class of 2015. The inductees will be announced later today during the NFL Honors show.

The voters will cut down from the 15 finalists to 10 people, and the Class of 2015 will then be introduced tonight during the NFL Honors program. It's an odd set up because the NFL Honors program airs at 9 p.m. ET/PT on FOX, but it is taped earlier in the afternoon. I would think that means the inductees will be known earlier, but who really knows what will happen. I'll keep an eye on Twitter for more information, and get something posted. Last year, the announcement came at around 4 p.m. PT, so I suspect we'll see something similar.

For San Francisco 49ers fans, the big news will be whether or not former defensive end/outside linebacker Charles Haley gains entry to Canton. He was an absolute monster of a pass rusher, impacting the game time and again. He has five Super Bowl rings to his credit, and was a decisive presence for all five teams. His playing days were marked by erratic behavior, and I have a hunch some media have not voted for him because of his behavior. Of course, he was later diagnosed as being bi-polar, which would explain a lot of his actions. I once again hope this is the year he finally gets his due.

This year's class features some big names among the new candidates. Kurt Warner, Orlando Pace and Junior Seau are all first time finalists. Those three plus Haley join Jerome Bettis, Kevin Greene, Marvin Harrison, Will Shields, Morten Andersen, Tim Brown, Terrell Davis and John Lynch, among players. The other three finalists are coaches Don Coryell, Tony Dungy, Jimmy Johnson. Bill Polian and Ron Wolf were advanced to the finalists round as "contributors", but will be voted on separately, just on their own.

Friday, January 9th, 2015 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from around the Internet.

Good morning everyone. Looking over today's links, the one that jumped out for me was the news that former San Francisco 49er Charles Haley made it to the finalist stage in the Hall of Fame voting. That's great, and it's good to see, but the big issue is this: it's his sixth-consecutive year. It's absolutely ridiculous that Haley hasn't made it into the Hall of Fame just yet.

If he does make it, I'll be happy for him, happy for the system and happy in general, but it's still insulting that he hasn't made it in. Then again, I do find a lot of the things around the actual selection process of the various Hall of Fames in sports to be kind of crummy and counter-intuitive. Whatever the case, I'll be rooting for Haley, as usual.

Super late Golden Nuggets today, so we're going to jump right into your links. Enjoy, ya'll.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced a group of finalists that includes some serious talent. We break it down, including the most notable ex-49er.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced the 15 finalists that will join Ron Wolf and Bill Polian in the vote for the 2015 class. The finalists will include Kurt Warner, Orlando Pace, Junior Seau as the first year candidates getting into the finalist stage. They are joined by Jerome Bettis, Kevin Greene, Charles Haley, Marvin Harrison, Will Shields, Morten Andersen, Tim Brown, Terrell Davis and John Lynch, among players. The other three finalists are coaches Don Coryell, Tony Dungy, Jimmy Johnson. Unfortunately, Roger Craig was denied a shot at Canton, once again.

Congrats to all the finalists, but especially Charles Haley, who is long overdue for a spot in Canton. The former 49ers and Cowboys pass rush threat was an absolute monster for quarterbacks. He has five Super Bowl rings to his credit, and was a decisive presence for all five teams. One reason he might struggle to get the recognition he is due could be his erratic behavior. He was later diagnosed as being bi-polar, which would explain a lot of his actions. Hopefully this is the year he finally gets his due.

The first year class of semifinalists included the likes of wide receivers Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce, running back Edgerrin James, offensive lineman Kevin Mawae, and cornerback Ty Law. I am not shocked James was not a finalist, but it will be interesting to compare how he progresses over the years, versus how Frank Gore does once he is eligible. While James currently is ranked No. 11 all-time, he played a lot of years with some great offenses. On the other hand, Frank Gore has accumulated his yards on a mix of really good and really bad teams. He has averaged 1/2 yard more per carry over his career, and if he can get in another couple years, he very well could find himself in the top ten when all is said and done.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame cut down to 26 semifinalists as they move toward determining the 2015 induction class. There are some players with 49ers connections.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame continued its march on Tuesday toward determining the Class of 2015, as they announced 26 Modern Era semifinalists. This group will be cut down to 15 on January 8, and that will be cut down to the induction class on January 31.

This year, the finalists include four players with some kind of connection to the San Francisco 49ers. The most notable is running back Roger Craig. After that, linebacker/defensive end Charles Haley had serious connections to the 49ers. Finally, wide receiver Isaac Bruce and linebacker/defensive end Kevin Greene each spent a little bit of time with the 49ers. Former owner Eddie DeBartolo will not be part of this class, as he fell short in the vote for the new special contributors section.

Haley has been a finalist each of the last two years, which would hopefully bode well for his eventual induction. Craig on the other hand has fallen short of the finalists recently. Both face a tough task with some serious talent on the ballot.
